You have probably heard or read about some of the things that are "quietly" stored in index.dat files often without your knowledge. Even after you empty your cache, clear your history and delete all your cookies, information still exists in one of several index.dat files on your hard disk.

With tools such as Index.dat File Viewer, this information can be viewed by anyone with access to your machine. This doesn't just mean physical access. If they could get remote access to your hard disk, they could also view this information. This could include your employer, law enforcement agencies, hackers, your partner or friends, and so on.

  • Automatically scan all directories that index.dat files are located.

  • Display a list of all the URLs and local file paths that are recorded in various index.dat files. Time visited for each URL or path is also listed.

  • Online page view: a feature that opens the web page for the URL selected in the list.
